Lantus insulin is one of the types of insulin used by millions of diabetics. Recent studies on lantus's relationship to cancer have caused severe panic among patients and many have stopped using it.
This post is an attempt to explore the truth and answer many patients' questions. Do I stop using lantus or continue using it?
In June, one of the famous European diabetic journals published diabetologia results of three studies called observational studies of 127,000 patients. There was a direct correlation between lantus use and cancer among every 100 patients who had cancer after lantus
Another study in Germany showed that there was a relationship between the dose used for infection and cancer.
A study in Sweden also showed a direct link between the use of lantus and the incidence of cancer
A study in Britain has shown no link between lantus and cancer
The US International Health and Drug Administration is now reviewing these studies to ensure the safety of lantus but recommends that patients do not stop the use of lantus. More robust studies are needed to confirm whether there is a direct link between lantus and cancer
According to the FDA
The FDA currently is recommending that patients not stop taking insulin glargine without consulting a healthcare professional. No guidance regarding action to be taken by healthcare professionals has been issued.
What is written is that the organization advises that patients should not stop using lantus for further studies. This is what I personally prefer. Studies are not strong. Lantus is not required to control patients who control the sugar in an excellent way. In contrast, those who do not control the lantus sugar rate are better to change insulin. Is the reason for the change of Lantos and not these studies so far .
