Scientists Discover *Other Dangers* of SUGAR!

In a new study, researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine discovered new risks for sugar.

The American Journal of Pediatrics found that increasing the blood sugar of women in the early stages of pregnancy doubled the risk of congenital heart disease in newborns.

Experts have previously believed that the possibility of having children with congenital heart disease was due to diabetes mellitus, but now they found that high blood sugar in pregnant women (not diabetics) is also a cause of the birth of children with heart disease.

"We found that the risk of congenital heart disease in newborns was due to high blood sugar in the first months of pregnancy," said James Priest, co-author of the study.

Medical specialists analyzed the medical records of more than 19,000 pairs of mothers and their children, excluding children with hereditary diseases, and mothers with abnormal BMI, showing that 811 children had congenital heart disease.

The final outcome of the analysis was made after physicians excluded women who had diabetes, even those who contracted it during pregnancy. The risk of congenital heart disease increased by 8 percent with an increase in glucose (in the first months of pregnancy) by 10 milligrams per deciliter of blood.

If the results are confirmed, doctors will be able to give pregnant mothers the first three months of treatment to prevent the birth of children with congenital heart disease, the scientists said.
